Nets Get Joe Johnson from Hawks

The Brooklyn Nets do not want to start in their new home without having plenty of power on their team roster. How it appears as if the team will have its first big scorer, as they have agreed to a deal that will bring Joe Johnson, the shooting guard to the team from the Atlanta Hawks. The Nets however have paid a big price by picking up Johnson. The guard has four seasons left on his current contract that is worth $89 million. Nadal Defeated By No. 100 Ranked Player

Rafael Nadal, a two-time champion at Wimbledon was stunned by Lukas Rosol the world’s No. 100 ranked player. On Thursday, in the second round of Wimbledon, Rosol defeated Nadal 6-7 (9), 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. The win by Rosol was one of the biggest in the 135 years of the tournament. Over the past five consecutive years, Nadal had played in the finals of Wimbledon and overall had played in the last four consecutive Grand Slam finals. Youkilis Trade Continues Breakup of Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox announced the trade of veteran Kevin Youkilis to the Chicago White Sox following  the team’s game on Sunday. The trade rumor has grown over the past week and a deal for him to leave was imminent. Youkilis did not seem to fit into new manager Bobby Valentine’s plans from practically day one. Miami Heat Wins NBA Title

The Miami Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night to claim the franchise’s second NBA title. The title was the first for NBA MVP LeBron James. The Heat routed the Thunder 121-106 to win the series 4-1. The Heat won four consecutive games in the series after losing the opening game at Oklahoma City. Leading the Heat was James with 26 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds. The Heat also got 24 points from Chris Bosh and 20 from Dwayne Wade. Matt Cain Pitches Majors’ Second Perfect Game

San Francisco Giant pitcher Matt Cain pitched a perfect game last night, the 22nd  in the history of Major League Baseball. Wednesday night Cain defeated the Houston Astros by the score of 10-0 giving up no hits and allowing no runners on base. Cain needed 125 pitches in San Francisco to defeat the Astros. The Giants pitcher had 14 strikeouts to tie the record for strikeouts in a perfect game with Sandy Koufax that was set back in 1965. U.S. Open Starts Thursday

The U.S. Open will start on Thursday at The Olympic Club outside San Francisco. Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods will be paired together for the first two days of the tournament along with Bubba Watson the current Masters champion. Wood and Mickelson have not been paired in the U.S. Open since 2008 when it was played at Torrey Pines and groupings were made by rankings. Nadal Returns from Rain Delay to Capture French Open

Rafael Nadal waited an extra day, but still captured history when he defeated Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-3, 2-6 and 7-5 in the men’s final of the French Open that was suspended by rain on Sunday. The win by Nadal was his seventh at the French Open and broke the tie of six he shared with Bjorn Borg at the Tour’s only clay court major. Kevin Millwood the Seattle Mariners starter and five relievers no-hit the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday night 1-0. New York Mets leftie Johan Santana pitched the team’s first no-hitter Friday night against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Mets defeated the Cardinals 8-0. Santana was helped by a terrific catch by a teammate and a missed call by the third base umpire. On Thursday, the rape conviction of Brian Banks was dismissed. The former football star in high school dreamed of playing professional football until he pleaded no contest at the age of 16 to raping a childhood friend. She falsely accused him of raping her on school grounds, shattering his future in pro football. Banks has spent five of the last 10 years in prison for pleading no contest to the forcible rape charge, but on Thursday that charge was dismissed in court. Three Italian Soccer Clubs Under Investigation

Three top-flight professional soccer clubs in Italy’s Serie A league are under investigation for match fixing. The three teams Siena, Novara and Atalanta are alleged to have manipulated games and bet on the results, said the Italian Football Federation. The IFF released a 48-page document that listed 22 clubs and 61 people that were reported to authorities of the Federation in connection with a betting and match-fixing investigation. Ex-NFL Player Convicted of Sex crimes

Nate Webster a former linebacker with the Cincinnati Bengals was convicted of sex-related crimes on Wednesday involving the daughter of an ex-Cincinnati Bengal assistant coach. The Cincinnati jury declared Webster guilty on four counts of illegal sexual conduct involving a minor. He was found not guilty by the jury of three additional charges: sexual battery, sexual imposition and another count of illegal sexual conduct involving a minor. The University of Arkansas football coach Bobby Petrino and his female companion did not want a passerby to call 911 following the coach’s motorcycle accident.
