Coach Ryan Says We do not have a QB Controversy

The head coach of the New York Jets, Rex Ryan, said the team does not have a quarterback controversy. Last week the Jets traded for Tim Tebow. The former Denver quarterback arrived just after the Jets extended the contract of current starting quarterback Mark Sanchez.

Ryan said on Tuesday, while at the NFL owners meetings, that people who have criticized the team for trading for Tebow do not know the team’s reason for the trade. Ryan pointed out that he thinks a Wildcat package will fit Tebow’s talent well. He says the league has still not found a way to neutralize that type of setup.

Defending against the quarterback running leaves defenses vulnerable said Ryan. If you have someone that can also throw, it makes it even more difficult. He mentioned the playoff game between Denver and Pittsburgh as a point. You put your defense into man coverage and a tackle is missed on a run and you have a touchdown that results.

Ryan said that Tebow is difficult to tackle once he gets outside and with his size, not many corners are going to want to have to tackle him. He said Tebow is perfect for the Wildcat.

Ryan insisted that starting quarterback Sanchez will not get upset over loosing snaps to Tebow in a Wildcat setup. He said if we win, everyone would be OK with it. That is what is important Ryan said, winning. He also said that Sanchez is must more confident than people give him credit for.
