A woman from New York told police her husband faked his drowning so he could collect on the life insurance and abandon her. Evana Roth said it was all a nightmare that she wished she could wake up from.
Raymond Roth told his wife on July 29, a Sunday, he was going to Jones Beach for a swim. He said he would only be gone for about an hour. However, his son says his dad disappeared while swimming and never came back.
His wife however, says she found emails that were allegedly sent from her husband to Jonathan, her 22-year old stepson that outlined details of how he was staging his own disappearance. When she found out about the staged details, she contacted both the police and her brother in law.
Roth may have given up the resort he was staying at by including the name of it in an email to his son. However, when Orlando police went to check on him he was not there. Santee, South Carolina polices however, said he was stopped for speeding by let go when he said he had argued with his wife.
New York police are allegedly talking to Roth by phone and said that he was going to return to speak with them. However, it is still uncertain if any charges will be filed against Roth. The cost of the investigation into his drowning and subsequent disappearance has cost the state thousands of dollars.
Roth is alleged to have increased the value of his own life insurance three-fold in the weeks leading up to his alleged drowning.
