The largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, Samsung Electronics expects its new phone to sell over 10 million units before the end of July, which will make it the company’s bestseller to date. The company, based in South Korea, said earnings from the mobile handset division would increase in the second quarter over the previous three months, as the new Galaxy S III has been accepted well by consumers since it was launched globally in the latter part of May, which beat the newest model for Apple to market.
A spokesperson for Samsung said it was receiving much better feedback from the new model overseas than what they had experienced with previous Galaxy models. Samsung sold over 50 million units of the two previous Galaxy models in the last two years.
On May 29, the newest model for Samsung was launched in 28 countries across Europe, with the company introducing the product in 147 countries via over 300 operators before July. Samsung launched the latest model last Thursday in the U.S. Samsung said demand has exceeded its supply, but by next week, its production should improve. The company’s spokesperson also said it was looking into the claim of one Galaxy owner that the phone burned its lower end after overheating. However, after an initial investigation it appears as if the damage was not due to an exploding battery.
Analysts said with sales the way they were, the company was on track to reach its sales forecast, as the momentum for smartphone sales was predicted to continue thanks to the new Galaxy and until the new Apple is launched.
