A young 22-year old and her unborn baby survived being kidnapped, shot and set on fire in Michigan, said police. The woman is nine months pregnant and she told authorities she was leaving her ex-boyfriend at the home of his new girlfriend early Saturday morning. The two had been to a drive-in movie and as she pulled into the garage and was getting out of her car, someone unexpectedly closed the garage door.
She said she was then grabbed by the throat and had a gun pressed against her head. She was ordered to lie on the ground by her attacker. She then had duct tape placed over her mouth and her hands and feet were bound with the tape. She was then blindfolded and put into her car and driven to Detroit.
Her attacker said he did it because she was pregnant. After the man said why he had kidnapped her, he poured a liquid over her, struck a match, and lit her afire. She escaped from the car and rolled on the ground to extinguish the flames. As she was doing that, her attacker took two shots, hitting her once in her back.
She said she acted as if she was dead and her attacker left. She was able to undo the duct tape and drove the car to where her mother lives in Detroit. She was then taken to the hospital by her mother.
The ex-boyfriend of the victim was taken into custody by the police on Saturday. Authorities said he did not contact police when his ex-girlfriend was kidnapped. Following the incident, doctors gave the woman an ultrasound that determined the unborn baby was still alive.
