US Airways 4th Quarter Profit Doubles

US Airways reported that its net income doubled in the fourth quarter and executives said that the strong demand the airline is experiencing at the moment is a precursor to higher fares. The profits went up to a record revenue as it got fuller planes in the last three months. Netflix

Airline companies managed to raise fares five times in 2012 but struggled to do so in the past months. United tried to increase its fares this month but failed after the other airlines didn’t match its prices. US Airways’ yield declined in the fourth quarter.

But this would not last long. US Airways President Scott Kirby said that full planes and the high demand could lead to fare increases. There were less empty seats in the fourth quarter of 2012, with occupancy increased 2 percentage points to 83.9 percent. January bookings are currently up 8 percent compared to the previous year.

Even without higher fares, more passengers meant higher profits. Revenue for each seat flown a mile increased 2.2 percent. US Airways’ net income for the fourth quarter was $37 million or 22 cents per share. Last year, the airline got $18 million or 11 cents per share. Excluding special items, net income for US Airways was 26 cents per share, which is 7 cents higher than forecasts made by analysts.

Revenue increased 3.9 percent to $3.28 billion. This was a record for the quarter. US Airways is engaged in talks with American Airlines for a merger. US Airways declined to comment on the topic due to a non-disclosure agreement.

American and its parent company, AMR Corp, have been operating under bankruptcy protection since November 2011. Last week, AMR reported a loss for the last quarter of 2012, excluding special items, of $88 million. This was better than the $121 million loss from a year ago.

Right from her arrival in Chile, Alicia is struggling. She is unprepared for the trip and wary of her surroundings. He receives an abrasive welcome from the group. Agustin Silva and Browning are good supports to Temple. Cera and Moreno are believable as the tormentors. Cera has been known for his comedies but in Magic Magic, he is not funny at all. His actions, words, and fashion sense leaves a feeling of a creep that wants to be close to his prey. Moreno is always scowling towards Alicia from the start.

But the star of Magic Magic is Juno Temple. She plays a stranger in a strange land and accompanied by new acquaintances in a trip to a destination unknown to her. She is the cause for contempt along the way and feels trapped.

Alicia is a grounded person before she goes on the trip to South America but she changed as she arrived in the country. The coastal surroundings look relaxing and yet Alicia is inconsolable. It leads to a breathless and frightening final act.
