Dow Jones Investigated Allegations of Bribery in China

An announcement was made by Dow Jones & Company saying it had investigated the alleged bribery of Chinese officials by employees of the Wall Street Journal over obtaining important information.

The U.S. Justice Department requested that Dow investigate WSJ as part of a larger probe into phone hacking that created a huge scandal in 2011 in the United Kingdom at News Corp., its parent company.

The DOJ has not announced whether it was satisfied with Dow’s findings or if the allegations will be looked into directly by them. A spokesperson for the Department of Justice was not available to make any comment on the matter.

In their online site, the WSJ reported that a still unidentified informant has told Department of Justice representatives that WSJ employees had given gifts to Chinese officials to learn more about the Chinese leadership.

Regulators in the U.S. and the UK are currently investigating News Corp due to allegations that News of the World, a now defunct tabloid in Britain, bribed officials as well as hacked phones. Some legal experts believed that New Corp might be investigated for violating the foreign Corrupt Practices Act in the U.S.

News Corp announced on Sunday that the matters in the UK were being taken care of and the company had met its commitments to find the wrongdoing. It said it was confident that what the company was doing would set the company back on the right path.
