A study that was recently published claims that humans are the cause of the overall rise in the temperature of the world’s oceans. The study showed that at most, that natural variability in the temperatures of the world’s oceans amounted for only 10% in temperature change. Inputs came from India, Japan, Australia and the United States in the study.
Test were done to account for various uncertainties nevertheless the researchers found no evidence the increase in surface temperatures in the world’s seven seas could be from just natural climate variability by itself. The scientists said that humans have played a dominate role in influencing the increase in the water’s temperature.
One co-author of the study, Dr. John Church said that the study compared the changes observed in the ocean temperature to over a dozen different models to project climate changes. The doctor said it was the most comprehensive form of study to date about the change in ocean temperatures.
The most recent study however, drew on observational data taken from all the major oceans in the world and compared that data to models and projecting change both with and without greenhouse gas impact.
Two factors were identified by the authors of the study that were taken into account. One was that systematic instrumental bias had to be corrected and the impact of volcanic activity on data that was short term.
