On Wednesday, Sony Corp, looking to reclaim some of its luster that was lost in the consumer electronics market in the past few years, unveiled their new line of products that included the new Xperia tablet brand.
Kazuo Hirai, the CEO of Sony showed off the Xperia Tablet S as well as several new smartphones and a new Bravia 84-inch television. The new products were showcased by Sony at the IFA show in Berlin that showcases consumer electronics.
In a prepared statement, Hirai admitted Sony was dealing with issues that challenge the relevance of the company going forward. He said it forced the company to make very hard business decisions that it never had to take prior to now.
Not only does the device have standard functions of any tablet like access to the Web, but also the Xperia will allow its users to control their televisions and cable boxes via a remote control app that is universal and has been pre-loaded on the tablet. The pre-loaded app also will work with Blu-ray players and home stereos.
Following the unveiling of the new products by Sony, shares of the company increased by 2%. The new devices will be very important to the company’s future, as it tries to turn around from quarterly losses that have dogged the once famed Japanese company.
