Smartphone Market in U.S. led by Apple

Apple is on the way up in the U.S., while Blackberry, Windows and Samsung are headed down. Apple led the way for smartphone sales in the U.S. during a three-month period from November of last year through the end of January of this year.

Just published data released by one of the top Internet research firms, shows how the top five makers of smartphone hardware competed against one another between November 2011 and January 31, 2013.

The recently released data underscores the popularity iPhone made by Apple enjoyed in sales in the U.S. across its different models. Sales for Apple smartphone products were not differentiated in the recently released data.

The new figures show that Appleā€™s iPhone sales amounted to close to 38% of all smartphone sales in the U.S. as of January 31. Apple for the three months that ended on October 31, 2012 had smartphone sales in the U.S. of just over 34%, therefore the Cupertino, California based tech giants increased its sales during the three-month period ending January 31 by more than 3.5%.

Coming in second was Samsung, the South Korea based giant in electronics. As with Apple data, the different products for Samsung were not differentiated and total sales for its smartphone products in the U.S. for the same period was 21.4%.

That represented a 1.9% increase from the three months that ended October 31, 2012. During the most recent three-month period, Samsung released its Galaxy Note II and is expected to release is next generation Galaxy S, the Galaxy S4 during March. The other three in the top five were Huawei, ZTE and Blackberry.
