On Friday, Apple Inc. was awarded another sales ban against Samsung. A judge in the U.S. ordered South Korean based Samsung Electronics to stop sales of its Nexus smartphone while the an Apple claim is considered by the court over patent infringement.
The ban was the second Apple was awarded this week against Samsung. A northern California court said the Nexus smartphone might infringe on four of Apple’s patents, including one used in the voice activated system Siri found on the iPhone 4S.
Apple, the court said, clearly showed it is likely to suffer harm if preliminary injunctive relief is not put in place. Judge Lucy Koh ordered that Apple post a bond of $96 million, as an estimated damage that will be suffered by Samsung for the sales ban, in case Apple loses the trial to Samsung at a later date. As soon as the bond is placed by Apple, the ban will be in effect in the U.S. said Judge Koh.
The two are embroiled in a number of lawsuits in North America, Europe and Asia that date back to April of 2011 when Apple first accused Samsung of copying its iPad and iPhone. Samsung then hit back that Apple used mobile technology without prior permission.
Judge Koh also ordered Samsung on Tuesday to stop all sales in the U.S. for its tablet Galaxy Tab 10.1.
