What happened
Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) said Oct. 6 that it signed a study-startup agreement with Thermo Fisher Scientific's clinical research business. The contract will support Quantum's Phase 2 clinical trial of Lucid-21-302, or Lucid-MS, in multiple sclerosis.
Quantum said this agreement begins formal study-startup work after FDA clearance to proceed with the planned Phase 2 trial. The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study is designed to test efficacy, safety and tolerability in people with progressive forms of MS. Thermo Fisher will provide study-startup work and related clinical research services.

Why it matters
The filing gives Quantum a clinical milestone for Lucid-MS, which it describes as an investigational neuroprotective therapy aimed at demyelination. OptimistFi's case is that Quantum BioPharma needs fundable milestones to extend its runway, and this filing moves that case forward on the trial side.
Quantum says Lucid-MS targets protein arginine deiminase 2, or PAD2, an enzyme linked to myelin degradation. The release also points to a large market, saying multiple sclerosis affects about 2.8 million people worldwide and the MS therapeutic market is projected to exceed $38 billion by 2030.
Quantum also restated Unbuzzd economics: 7% of sales until payments to Quantum total $250 million, then 3% in perpetuity. Quantum says it owned 19.48% of Unbuzzd as of June 30, 2026. OptimistFi's calculation shows the royalty rate falls by 4 percentage points after that threshold. The release also says drug development is inherently uncertain and still depends on financing and third-party execution.

What's next
The next step is study start-up and the launch of the Phase 2 Lucid-MS trial. A smooth start would strengthen the case that Quantum can keep advancing Lucid-MS after FDA clearance.
Any delay in study start-up would weaken that case, because the release says delays or difficulties in study start-up are among the risks. Investors will also track the Unbuzzd royalty stream against the $250 million threshold.
