Why it matters
OptimistFi's case is that J.B. Hunt's intermodal scale and dedicated-contract relationships can keep turning shipper complexity into cash earnings through the cycle. This filing is mixed because revenue grew 20% while operating income grew 2%. Top-line gains did not fully reach the bottom line. By OptimistFi's calculation, revenue growth outpaced operating-income growth by 18 percentage points. The release cites higher purchase transportation, driver, equipment and insurance claim costs.
Intermodal revenue rose 20% to $1.83 billion, and operating income rose 18% to $147.5 million. Dedicated Contract Services revenue rose 11% to $960 million, but operating income fell 22% to $81.7 million. Final Mile Services revenue fell 3% to $200 million, and operating income fell 76% to $1.6 million. Integrated Capacity Solutions revenue rose 57% to $434 million and swung to $9.6 million of operating income from a $0.8 million loss.
Truckload revenue rose 37% to $261 million, while operating income fell 6% to $7.0 million. Net interest expense decreased, and the effective tax rate was 25.5% versus 24.0% in third-quarter 2025. Management said it expects a 2026 full-year annual tax rate of about 24.0%. For the first nine months, operating income was $713.6 million versus $618.6 million, and diluted EPS was $5.21 versus $4.24.
