What happened
Robert Half Inc. (NYSE: RHI) reported third-quarter revenue of $1.359 billion, up only 0.4% from a year earlier.
The more encouraging signal came from Talent Solutions. Adjusted revenue grew 2%, its first year-over-year increase since 2022. Operating income also rose sharply. The direct answer is that a recovery may be starting, but one quarter does not prove it.

Why it matters
Operating income reached $74.848 million, compared with $13.588 million a year earlier. Dividing operating income by revenue gives a 5.51% operating margin for Q3 2026. The same calculation gives 1.00% for Q3 2025.
That improvement was not caused by rapid companywide growth. Gross margin increased to $532.095 million from $504.231 million, while selling, general, and administrative expense fell to $457.247 million from $490.643 million. Better gross profit and lower overhead did most of the margin work.
Gross margin equaled 39.1% of revenue, compared with 37.2% a year earlier. That 1.9-point improvement suggests pricing, mix, or delivery economics also helped. The filing does not support assigning the change to one cause.
Net income increased to $49.870 million from $42.916 million, and diluted EPS rose to $0.49 from $0.43. Those figures support the early-recovery case because profitability improved even before revenue accelerated.
The strongest counterargument is the longer view. Nine-month revenue fell 2.0% to $3.996 billion, while diluted EPS declined to $0.90 from $1.01. Quarterly revenue was nearly flat, so a modest staffing improvement could still reverse if hiring demand weakens.

What's next
The next test is whether Talent Solutions remains positive and broadens across geographies in the fourth quarter. Investors should watch revenue growth, gross margin, SG&A discipline, consultant utilization, hiring activity, and 2027 guidance.
Management described Talent Solutions growth on an adjusted basis. The article does not treat that measure as identical to reported company revenue. A full recovery requires repeated growth and durable margins, not one favorable comparison.
