Many conservatives are trying to figure out an explanation for why presidential candidate Mitt Romney lost the election a week ago. A great deal of blame for the loss was put on the lack of success in the campaign’s get out and vote on Election Day efforts. That turned out to be a massive failure due to disorganization and resulted in an even lower turnout than in 2008 for John McCain.
One big source of the problems on Election Day seems to be Project ORCA, a huge technological undertaking that ended up being disastrous. It was supposed to give the campaign real time monitoring of polls that would help the Republicans target their get out and vote efforts on November 6.
During the week prior to the election, a campaign spokesperson for Romney, Andrea Saul, said that ORCA was the latest and most advanced technological plan the Republican Party had to help them win the election. She referred to it as a game changer that would help them to blow away the sophisticated system the Obama campaign had for tracking exit polls.
On poll watcher for the Republicans said that the Romney campaign did not even have poll watching volunteers in Jacksonville, Florida, which was a key city for the Republicans in a hugely important swing state, without the proper credentials so even if the ORCA had worked they would have been unable to provide any data.
