The president’s reelection campaign released fundraising figures on Saturday, just one day before Obama is scheduled to attend three fundraisers in California, including one where President Clinton will attend and one featuring a concert with Stevie Wonder amongst other entertainers.
Thanks in part to the early September Democratic National Convention, donate by text capabilities and the his expanding lead in both national and state polls, President Barack Obama was able to raise over $181 million for his reelection campaign during September.
The huge haul by Obama’s campaign raised the total for the campaign to over $947 million, which means it is almost certain he will pass the $1 billion mark for funds raised for his reelection campaign, other affiliated campaigns and the Democratic National Convention.
Since Obama’s reelection campaign started in April of last year, close to 4 million people have sent in donations, said Messina.
The fundraising for September for the Romney campaign has still not been released. The nominee for the Republican Party thus far has raised nearly $669 million through the end of August for his campaign.
On Sunday over 6,000 people supporting Obama are expended to attend a concert that will headline Earth Wind and Fire, Jon Bon Jovi, Katy Perry and Wonder. Also expected to attend are Antonio Villaraigosa the Mayor of Los Angeles, Julian Castro the keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention and Mayor of San Antonio and George Clooney.
