Law enforcement in Miami are searching for additional witnesses after one of their police officers shot and killed a naked man, after the man refused to stop biting the face of another man who was also naked. The man continued chewing the other’s face even when the police officer had hit him with his first gun shot.
Police would like to hear from people who could help describe what happened and what led to the scene where the man, identified as Rudy Eugene, chewed the face of another man and growled when the officer insisted he stop.
Police have not released the identity of the victim who is in critical condition in a Miami hospital. Police said the incident took place on an exit ramp of the MacArthur Causeway and are hoping people will come forward who saw the incident take place.
Very few details of the attack have been released other than saying there was a shooting involving a police officer that resulted in a fatality. One witness, Larry Vega said that he saw the man tearing the victim to pieces using his mouth. Vega yelled at the attacker to get off the other man, but said the man continued to rip pieces of flesh off the man using his teeth.
Vega said a police officer had to shoot the attacker twice before he would stop biting the man’s face. The second shot killed the attacker. Vega described the scene as gruesome and said the victim looked as though he was gravely ill.
