Mississippi Arrests Suspect in Highway Murders

A suspect in the shootings of two people in Mississippi has been arrested. Two people were killed in northern Mississippi on highways in the early morning hours of last week. The suspect, James Willie of Sardis, Mississippi was in possession of the handgun that authorities said was used in the two slayings.

His arrest may end the massive manhunt that was in place by law enforcement. The killings had created a great deal of panic amongst motorists since the killer reportedly had dressed like a police officer and pulled over his two victims before shooting them.

Investigators in Mississippi had said that someone may have been posing as a law enforcement official when they killed Tom Schlender a 74-year old and Lori Anne Carswell a 48-year old. The slayings took place only 55 miles apart from one another.

However, after some investigation, it appears that the impersonation of a police officer was not used as an MO in the two shootings. Police however, could not say what they believe is the motive behind the killings or give details of the shootings. Willie was arrested sometime Tuesday for an unrelated offense. He was found with a female who accused him of raping her.

The woman accused Willie of abducting her and taking her back to an apartment. She says there was an altercation at the apartment and that shots may have been fired. Police rushed to where the incident took place and arrested Willie.

After testing was done on the gun, it was determined that the weapon matched the one used in the two highway slayings. The latest news comes less than a day after another suspect had been stopped for questioning in the slayings.
