Autopsy Scheduled For Women Shot By Husband

On Monday, the office of the coroner will perform an autopsy on a woman who was shot while in her intensive care unit bed. The woman, who was from northeast Ohio was allegedly shot by husband, in what police say could be a mercy killing.

John Wise, the woman’s husband is tentatively scheduled to make his first court appearance on Tuesday or Wednesday. Police said they wanted to have the results of the autopsy prior to deciding what charges would be appropriate for Wise.

Police say that Wise entered the hospital room of Barbara Wise, his 65-year old wife on Saturday. He is then alleged to have shot her while he was standing beside her bed.

Wise is facing attempted aggravated murder, but police sources said the charges could be increased once the autopsy report is released. Police said Wise was being cooperative and helping with the investigation. Wise currently is being held by police at an unknown location, but he will be booked into the jail soon.

A hospital spokesman said one shot had been fired in the third floor ICU. Once security personnel from the hospital arrived, Wise surrendered peacefully. Police are trying to determine if Wise killed his wife in a mercy killing, and why Barbara Wise was originally admitted to the hospital. At the time of her death, the doctors said she was in critical condition. The couple was married 45 years at the time of shooting.

Emergency personnel did respond to an emergency call as the Wise’s home in late July and treated a woman with advanced life support that included oxygen.
