FedEx to Buyout Employees in 2012-13

Federal Express has announced it will be offering a number of its employees in the U.S. a voluntary buyout. Company officials said on Monday that the company was offering the buyout packages to a select group of employees. The majority of workers that will be offered the buyout will be in either the FedEx Express or FedEx Services units. The company has more than 300,000 employees nationwide in the U.S.

There are 102,000 employees in the Express unit, while the Services unit has over 13,100 employees. Both units have employees in different places throughout the U.S. Officials said its buyout plan was just one part of a much larger plan to help improve the overall efficiency within the company and to lower costs.

Prior to the end of fiscal year 2013, details of all the buyouts would be made public, said officials in the company. A spokesperson from the company on Monday said FedEx had not yet set a target figure nor has it broken down where the employees are working who will be offered the buyouts.

The spokesperson from the company also said the company would release additional information regarding the buyouts and other parts of their plan at the Investors Meeting this fall. The Memphis based company is one of the world’s largest business and transportation services companies. Last year the company had more than $43 billion in revenue.

FedEx has logistics centers in cities throughout the U.S. and other parts of the world making it easier for them to control their shipments and maintain the delivery times they promise.
