Singer Bobby Brown was sent to jail after pleading no contest on Tuesday to charges that last October he operated a vehicle while intoxicated and with a license that was restricted.
However, reports say that the New Edition crooner was allowed out of jail Wednesday night after serving just nine hours of time, even though he had been sentenced to 55 days.
Brown, who is 44, had arrived at the Los Angeles County jail early Wednesday morning and was released later that same evening.
Last month Brown was given a sentence of 55 days when he pleaded no contest to the charge against him. At that time, the singer was serving probation for another DUI arrest in March of 2012. The tumultuous past of the R&B recording artist has included problems with substance abuse that caused a five-day jail stint in 1996 for crashing the Porsche of his ex-wife and now deceased Whitney Houston.
At the time of that car accident, Brown’s level of blood-alcohol was close to three times higher than the legal limit. He also served time in jail in 2000 when a drug test that had been court-ordered revealed traces of cocaine in the singer’s system.
