The new Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch has a glow light that offers lighting so it can be read in the dark. It also helps the e-reader to be read while in certain sunlight scenarios. The new e-reader will retail for $139 and is the first to have a built in light for reading.
There are lights that clamp on and other gadgets designed to make the reading experience more enjoyable in the dark however, Barnes & Noble has said its most recent Nook is the only one with built-in lighting for reading.
The light is pending a patent and allows for an adjustable, soft glow that is designed to give just enough light to read while in bed without being a disturbance to a spouse or partner who may want to sleep.
The GlowLight also was designed to help users read in bright sunlight if they are lounging on the sand at the beach or in other brightly lit areas. The unit is only seven ounces in weight, which makes it the lightest Nook to date. It has a new battery that will last over one month on an individual charge, even when using the light.
Barnes & Noble announced that the new Simple Touch Nook with its GlowLight will be launched in early May or $139 and can be pre-ordered by going to the company’s website. Its touchscreen is 6 inches and the unit can hold over 1,000 books and comes with expandable memory options. The Nook also has an anti-glare screen protector and a power adapter included.
