More tests were being conducted on Wednesday by investigators in an attempt to shed new light on Eva Rausing’s mysterious death. She was one of the wealthiest women in Britain and her body was located in her London mansion on Tuesday.
Hans, her husband, was arrested in connection with the billionaire’s death, which is still being called unexplained. Eva was born in the U.S. and she and her husband had been philanthropist but both have waged long battles to overcome drug addiction.
In 2008, while trying to enter a function at the U.S. Embassy in London, the couple was arrested for drug possession. Even though they were found to have heroin, crack cocaine and other drugs, authorities only warned them after taking them to headquarters.
Initial tests done post-mortem were not able to find a cause of death. Hans Rausing remained in police custody on Wednesday but at a medical facility receiving attention. Eva was a mother of four teenage children and her parents said she had been a devoted mother and wife.
Her in-laws, in a prepared statement, said they were deeply saddened and shocked by their daughter in law’s tragic death. Other expressing grief over her loss included charities she has helped over the years including one that helped with her drug addiction.
One source close to the investigation said the heiress could have been dead for a number of days and therefore her decomposing body made it difficult to determine her cause of death. Workers at the home are also being questioned and security tapes are being viewed to try to determine when she died.
