What happened
Brookfield Renewable Partners L.P. (NYSE: BEP) posted third-quarter Funds From Operations of $346 million, up from $302 million a year earlier. Per unit, the gain was 11%, to $0.51 from $0.46. The average unit count rose to 684.2 million from 661.9 million.
By OptimistFi's calculation, total Funds From Operations rose 14.6%. Revenue rose 11.5% to $1.78 billion from $1.6 billion. The company credited its contracted, inflation-linked fleet. Recent acquisitions, including Boralex Inc. and a larger stake in Isagen, also helped. So did about 9,000 MW of new projects that reached commercial operation in the past 12 months.
Gains on asset sales are also on that list. Part of the rise comes from selling assets, not just running them.

How the asset sales reshape the fleet
Brookfield Renewable and institutional partners completed or agreed asset sales since the second quarter that will generate $2.8 billion. Of that, $850 million is net to Brookfield Renewable. By OptimistFi's calculation, that is 30.4% of the gross proceeds. This fits the company's practice of investing alongside partners.
The Avaada redemption, one of its Indian platforms, brought net proceeds of $570 million, with $125 million net to Brookfield Renewable. The Colombian business completed or agreed sales of non-core or developed assets for $1.1 billion, with $420 million net. Sales of a final Maine hydro interest and a remaining interest in a portfolio sold to Northview Energy brought combined proceeds of $660 million, with $230 million net.
In September, the company closed a sale of non-core operating hydro assets for $155 million, with $60 million net. It also signed a sale of a non-core hydro and solar portfolio for $550 million, with $205 million net. In October, it closed a sale of another non-core hydro and solar portfolio for $425 million, with $160 million net.
Over nine months, recently completed sales cut consolidated generation by 7,984 GWh and revenue by $634 million. Newly acquired and commissioned facilities added 3,092 GWh and $288 million, less than half as much. Even so, nine-month revenue rose $136 million to $5 billion. Same-store, constant-currency growth added $237 million. Stronger currencies against the dollar added $245 million.

What the net loss, costs and debt show
Net loss attributable to Unitholders widened to $314 million from $120 million. That is $0.52 per LP unit against $0.23. Interest expense rose $121 million to $707 million. The filing ties this to financing for growth and stronger foreign currencies. Direct operating costs rose $292 million to $1.01 billion. The main cause was higher power purchases at higher market prices after lower system-wide hydrology in Colombia.
A $597 million foreign exchange and financial instruments gain, up $531 million, came from tax equity monetizations tied to development. Total net loss was $360 million against net income of $42 million a year earlier. The filing attributes the swing to those items and a revaluation of property, plant and equipment tied to tax credits.
Available liquidity was $5.14 billion at Sept. 30, up from $4.63 billion at Dec. 31, 2025. Corporate debt to capitalization rose to 17% from 14%. Corporate borrowings grew to $5.36 billion from $3.69 billion. The company closed C$750 million of green bonds: C$400 million of 10-year notes at 4.95% and C$350 million of five-year notes at 4.26%.
During the quarter it also said it was investing or committing up to $3.0 billion, with $700 million net to Brookfield Renewable. That is a ceiling, not money spent.
Why it matters
OptimistFi has argued that Brookfield Renewable turns a diversified fleet into predictable cash by using partner capital and Brookfield's financing scale. The quarter backs the cash-generation half of that view. Funds From Operations grew faster than revenue while capital recycling continued. Per-unit growth trails total growth, which matters to holders because the unit count rose.
The predictability half is less settled. Sale gains helped the Funds From Operations increase, and the net loss widened. Colombian hydrology cut both ways. It lifted spot prices, which raised revenue, and it pushed up the cost of power purchases. OptimistFi reads the filing as mixed for the case.
What's next
After quarter-end, Brookfield Renewable Corporation investors approved the proposed simplification of the structure. The company still seeks approval from at least two-thirds of Brookfield Renewable investors. Of those who have voted, 99.7% approved. Two proxy advisory firms recommended voting in favour.
The company also completed its acquisition of Aypa after quarter-end. It expects to deliver 10,000 MW of new projects per year in 2027 and 11,000 MW starting in 2028. The next quarterly report covers the quarter ending Dec. 31, 2026. Funds From Operations growth with a narrower net loss would strengthen the case. Growth that leans on sale gains would weaken it.
