What happened
Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ: LRCX) reported record September-quarter revenue and profit as semiconductor-equipment demand accelerated. Revenue reached $8.22 billion, up 22.3% from the June quarter, while GAAP operating margin expanded 260 basis points to 40.0%.
Management guided to $8.60 billion of December-quarter revenue at the midpoint, with a 40.5% GAAP operating margin. That implies another 4.6% of sequential revenue growth if results land at the midpoint, though the $400 million range remains wide.

Why it matters
The result supports the standing case that Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ: LRCX) can turn AI-related wafer-fabrication spending and device complexity into operating leverage. Gross margin rose 60 basis points sequentially even as revenue expanded by nearly $1.50 billion.
The mix explains part of that acceleration. Systems revenue increased to $5.73 billion from $4.25 billion, while customer support-related revenue was nearly flat at $2.49 billion. Systems grew from 63.2% to 69.7% of total revenue, a 6.5-point shift.
That mix strengthens near-term growth but raises the cycle test. New systems depend more directly on customer capital spending, while service, spares and upgrades usually provide steadier installed-base revenue. Deferred revenue increased to $2.66 billion from $2.43 billion, offering some forward coverage.
Cash also increased to $7.45 billion from $5.60 billion during the quarter. The larger balance gives Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ: LRCX) more flexibility, but it does not remove the earnings sensitivity to systems demand or regional sales restrictions.
The countercase is geographic concentration. China accounted for 35% of quarterly revenue. Export controls, customer restrictions or a change in regional spending could pressure sales and mix quickly. Management's AI-demand explanation is plausible, but one record quarter cannot prove that the equipment cycle has reached a durable higher base.

What's next
Compare December-quarter revenue and operating margin with the guidance midpoint, then track systems versus support revenue and China's share. The case strengthens if Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ: LRCX) sustains margin near 40% while support revenue resumes growth. It weakens if systems orders slow or export controls narrow the addressable customer base.
