What happened
EyePoint, Inc. (NASDAQ: EYPT) said on October 19, 2026 that it is shifting its focus to DURAVYU for diabetic macular edema after LUCIA missed its primary endpoint.
The board approved a plan to cut the workforce by about 53% and end the pivotal Phase 3 wet AMD trials early, before the second year of each trial is fully completed.
The company said the move is meant to lower operating costs and direct more resources to the late-stage DME program.
EyePoint said the changes should produce about $30 million in estimated annualized savings.
It also expects about $9 million in aggregate charges tied to employee separation benefits, including severance and related expenses.
The Phase 3 DME program includes COMO and CAPRI, two global, randomized, double-masked, aflibercept-controlled, non-inferiority trials of DURAVYU 2.7 mg.
EyePoint said it had about $118 million in cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments as of September 30, 2026.

Why it matters
OptimistFi's case is that DURAVYU still needs to show six-month sustained vorolanib delivery can match aflibercept outcomes while lowering injection burden.
This filing is mixed for that view because EyePoint is ending the wet AMD trials early after LUCIA failed the primary non-inferiority endpoint.
The DME program remains in place, so the investment case now depends more narrowly on that result.
OptimistFi's calculation puts the annualized savings at about 3.3 times the announced separation charges.
That matters because the company is cutting about half the workforce while it waits for a fourth-quarter 2027 topline readout in DME.
The $9 million charge is a one-time separation cost, while the wet AMD program is being wound down before the DME data arrive.

What's next
EyePoint said most of the workforce cuts should happen in the fourth quarter of 2026 and be finished in the first half of 2027.
The company expects pivotal Phase 3 topline data for DURAVYU in DME in the fourth quarter of 2027.
Those dates set the next test of whether the refocus can support the company after the wet AMD trials end early.
A stronger DME readout would support the shift, while a weaker one would hurt it.
Until then, the filing mainly shows a cash-conservation plan and a narrower clinical path.
