
Former Monkees star Davy Jones had a small family funeral in Florida.
March 8, 2012- The publicist for Davy Jones said a funeral was held for the Monkees singer. The funeral was private and held near the singer’s Florida home. Family, including his daughters and current wife were present. The publicist said Jones’ body would be cremated and his ashes would be returned to his birthplace, Manchester, England.
Next week there will be a memorial service open to the public in his honor in Manchester. Members of the Monkees did not attend the private funeral.. Micky Dolenz, one of the members, said they did not want to create mayhem by attending. The family wanted a simple low-key service he said.
A public service for Jones will be held at a still unspecified time in either New York or Los Angeles said Jones’ publicist. Hazel Wilkinson, the eldest sister of the singer said last week that he was always playing the part of the monkey from the day his was born.
He was the family’s youngest member and the youngest in the band. His sister said he seemed to be in excellent health. Jones passed away in his Florida home while sleeping.
The Monkees were formed in 1966. They often have been described as the first pop band to be manufactured as they were formed for a TV series that was very popular in the U.S. as well as the UK. During a 13 month, period the group had four albums that were number one in the U.S.
