The Grey Takes Top Spot At The Box Office

The Grey is the new king of the box-office.

Januaruy 30, 2012- The Grey won the weekend box office war. The movie starring Liam Neeson took the top honor with over $20 million in sales. The graveyard movie co-starring Dermot Mulroney is full of action and adult themes. 

Underworld: Awakening took second place with just over $12.5 million for the weekend bringing its total to $45 million since its debut. Third place was taken by One For the Money starring Katherine Heigl. The movie earned $11.7 million and was lower that what was expected in its debut weekend.

Red Tails remained tough by earning $10.4 million and staying in the top five with a fourth place finish. Its total since debuting is up to $33.7 million. The last spot in the top five was another debuting film. Man On A Ledge, starring Sam Worthington earned a respectable $8.3 million in its debut.

Three of the nine films nominated for Best Picture at the upcoming Oscars saw increased sales from the previous week. The Descendants saw an increase of over 176% from the previous week, while Hugo increased by over 142%. The odds on favorite for best picture, The Artist, saw a respectable increase of 40% for the week. The recent announcements of the Oscars helped to fuel those increases in revenue for the films.
