December 24, 2011-  Tom Cruise’s career got a jump-start from the latest Mission Impossible sequel that was released this week. The latest edition Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol was well in front of the other movies at the box office.

The sequel took in over $6.4 million on Thursday bringing its domestic sales to more than $32.4 million. Internationally through the same period, the movie has already taken in nearly $96 million. The film is expected to gross over $40 million during its six-day holiday run.

The latest Sherlock Holmes sequel starring Robert Downey Jr. started slow at the box office over last weekend, but has now picked up steam as it took in $4.8 million Thursday and has increased its domestic haul to $58.9 million.

Alvin and his singing chipmunks are also doing well as they earned nearly $4 million Thursday taking their total domestically to just less than $37 million. Paramount’s The Adventures of TinTin has seen huge success at international box offices but is taking longer to catch on here in the U.S. The animated film directed by Steven Spielberg earned only $2.4 million Wednesday taking its domestic sales to just over $8 million. Through last Sunday, the movie had already earned more than $240 million internationally.
