Eccentric UK singer Sinead O’Connor latest attempt at marriage has lasted just over two weeks.
December 28, 2011- Irish singer Sinead O’Connor has filed for divorce after just two weeks and two days of marriage to Barry Herridge. She announced her decision to her fans on her website on Tuesday. She wrote, “I had hoped to keep this private but received word it would leak out shortly despite my efforts to prevent it. So I must express it now so the record stays straight.”
The singer blames the divorce on the pressure members of her husband’s family placed on him. Certain people near him did not want him to be with her because of different press reports that had been released about her.
She also admitted that a post marriage ceremony trip by her looking for some marijuana to smoke also hurt her husband. She said the experience was hurtful for him and that added to the pressure from those near him made it quickly apparent the marriage would not last.
She felt he would be losing too much to bear. She said, “A wife wants to bring joy to her spouse, so if you love them, set them free.” She said he was a wonderful person and she loved him dearly.
She felt he was too nice to end the marriage himself so she had to end it. O’Connor has four children from past relationships. She was married to John Reynolds a music producer and Nicolas Sommerlad a journalist. She recently split from a long relationship with Steve Cooney.
