Report Alleges Apple is not paying Millions in Taxes

A report recently released says Apple, Inc. is avoiding paying billions of dollars of global taxes. The report claims the tech giant is opening small offices across the globe to collect and then invest profits by the company. The report that was released by theon Saturday said an office in Nevada, where corporate taxes are zero, was just one of many the tech giant, based in California uses to sidestep income taxes on profits. Some Women Think Contraceptives are 100% Effective

A recent study found that the majority of women in the U.S. overestimate condom and oral contraceptives’ effectiveness. Some even think the methods are 100% effective. Two doctors in St. Louis using a questionnaire of contraceptive knowledge conducted a cross-sectional analysis. The form was completed by over 4,100 women. Unemployment in Spain Hits Record

The notorious stagnant jobs market in Spain is a serious problem in the country and is expected to get even worse before turning the corner toward the good. The government in Spain reported that the unemployment rate skyrocketed to 24.4% during the first quarter of 2012. That is the highest the rate it has ever been. Motel Uses Nudity to Survive

One motel in Cocoa Beach, Florida has had a problem filling rooms and lounge chairs. In order to attract more guests, the Fawlty Towers Motel has had to resort to attracting guests that has raised the eyebrows of many local residents. Yahoo says Facebook Retaliated in Patent Fight

In early April, Facebook issued a countersuit against Yahoo. Facebook says that Yahoo infringed on 10 patents owned by the social network. That countersuit was about a month after Yahoo had originally filed a lawsuit against Facebook. Yahoo, in its lawsuit, claimed that Facebook infringed on its patent for its messaging, customization, privacy, ad network and social networking as a whole. Workers Do Not Get Enough Rest

A new study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control says that close to 41 million workers in the United States get less than six hours of sleep each night. That amount is about 30% of the entire civilian workforce in the country. The recommended amount by the National Sleep Foundation is seven to nine hours and by not getting that amount each night, the CDC said workers pose a potential risk to both themselves and their coworkers. Delta Flight was in Quarantine

On Thursday afternoon, a Delta Airlines flight was quarantined at Midway Airport in Chicago. One of the passengers, Lise Sievers says her recent trip to Uganda may have been the cause of the quarantine. She is adopting two children and while in Uganda, her family stayed at a hotel and she thinks she was contaminated with something from the hotel room. Rating For Spain Downgraded by S&P

Spain’s credit rating was downgraded on Thursday by Standard & Poor’s. The credit agency said the country’s levels of sovereign debt were excessively high and that the banks in Spain would need to receive an injection of aid as the economy in the country shrank. This marks the second time that S & P has downgraded the rating for Spain. House Okays Cybersecurity Bill

On Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a controversial bill known as the Cybersecurity bill. It allows private enterprise to exchange information that is confidential with the U.S. government. CISPA – the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, was passed by a vote of 248-162. Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc announced on Wednesday that it had agreed to purchase Actavis Group. The deal is estimated at over $5.6 billion. Ex-NFL Player Convicted of Sex crimes

Nate Webster a former linebacker with the Cincinnati Bengals was convicted of sex-related crimes on Wednesday involving the daughter of an ex-Cincinnati Bengal assistant coach. The Cincinnati jury declared Webster guilty on four counts of illegal sexual conduct involving a minor. He was found not guilty by the jury of three additional charges: sexual battery, sexual imposition and another count of illegal sexual conduct involving a minor. The most popular comedian in Egypt, Adel Imam has been found guilty of Insulting Islam. The verdict of the comedian for offending Islam was upheld in a Cairo court on Wednesday. Twins Delivered by Brain-dead Mother

Last week a woman who was brain-dead gave birth to twins. Christine Bolden, 26, who suffered brain aneurysms, gave birth via C-section to two twin boys. AT&T is generating less money from each new monthly subscriber of a smartphone. Video Game Debate Reopens After Norway Trial Starts

The alleged mass murderer Anders Breivik’s trial has reopened the dispute over video games. Breivik testified last Thursday that he used video games to train for his shooting spree that amounted to 77 deaths last summer. Mark Rutte the Dutch Prime Minister resigned on Monday after support from the far-right was withdrawn for his government. Measles Deaths Down Sharply in Last Decade

Deaths from measles worldwide have dropped by 75% in the last decade says new research by WHO. The majority of the deaths caused by measles were in Africa and India, where still very few children are immunized. Health officials said an estimated 9.6 million youngsters were saved between 2000 and 2010 following a huge vaccination campaign against measles that started in the late 1990s. During that time, researchers believe deaths from measles fell from 535,300 to just over 139,000 or nearly a 75%... 

NetFlix Loses Money, Gains Subscribers

This year Netflix expects to sign up over 7 million subscribers to its streaming video rentals, despite the fact it just posted its first loss for a quarter in over seven years. The home video and streaming video rental company lost close to $5 million in the quarter ended March 31, 2012. That compared to over $60 million in income for the same quarter last year. The company could see losses continue for the latest quarter, as it has forecasted between a loss of $6 million and a profit of $8 million... 

Revenue Increases Mean Higher Profits For Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC)

Wells Fargo saw an increase of 13% in profits for the first quarter.  The company reported earnings of $4.2 billion, or $0.75 a share.  The results were higher than the $0.73 a share forecasted by analysts.  Revenue increased to $21.64 billion, from $20.33 billion.  It was the highest quarterly revenue reported by the bank in over two years and the seventh-straight rise in quarterly net income for Wells Fargo. Call for Freezing Student Loan Interest Rates

Senator Charles Schumer has called on Congress to freeze the interest rates on student loans. Current Stafford loans have a rate of 3.4%, but they are destined to increase to 6.8% as of July 1. That increased will affect over 7.4 million students in the country. Schumer has joined the effort that is led by President Barack Obama to maintain the rates where they currently are.
