
Chaz Bono's much anticipated engagement has been called off.
December 20, 2011- Jennifer Elia and Chaz Bono called off their two-year engagement and cancelled their wedding plans. The couple has decided to part ways after a six-year relationship. Bono wrote on Twitter that he was thankful for the concerns his followers and fans had expressed over the couples separation.
He said he was doing fine and the two would maintain nothing but affection and respect for each other. Even though the two had been engaged for nearly two years, more attention had been focused of recent on the couple. An airing of a documentary November 28 about the two, Being Chaz, included a scene where Bono gave the diamond engagement ring to Elia.
The latest documentary was a follow up to Becoming Chaz, the documentary that followed Bono’s transgender process. Becoming Chaz was nominated for an Emmy. The couple had delayed their marriage until after Chaz’s transgender process was complete.
Chaz was born Chastity Bono and is the only child from the marriage of Sony Bono and Cher. He was declared male in May of 2010. He also recently appeared on Dancing With the Stars where he lasted for six weeks before being voted off.
Many wonder if the relationship was keep together as an act of convenience until after Bono’s run on DWTS was over and the second documentary was released.
