New Streaming Video Service from Lionsgate in China

Lionsgate the content firm that is global launched a streaming service that is by subscription called Lionsgate Entertainment World or LGEW, for the China mainland. The service features access to leading series from television and Hollywood blockbuster movies.

The service will launch during August of this year and stream in high resolution up to complete high-definition and offer recommendations to its viewers in China based upon curation technology.

The new service has been made possible because of collaboration with Alibaba that gives Lionsgate an increased access to the market in mainland China, one of the fastest growing and largest territories in the world of TV and film contents.

Available exclusively from the most recent generation of set-top boxes from Alibaba, the new service will at first offer blockbusters such as the first released of the Divergent unit, which already has grossed over $300 million globally, along with a number of titles from Twilight, which generated over $3.3 billion worldwide at the box office.

In addition, the new service will provide series like The Royals, which is expected to debut during the beginning of 2015 on E!. Nashville will also be available in its third season and the most recent Rosemary’s Baby miniseries.

The portfolio of content for the service will be expanded continuously after a launching that will include additional titles such as The Hunger Games.

Jon Feltheimer the CEO at Lionsgate said the company was pleased to enter collaboration with Alibaba as it is well known, respected and has an excellent relationship with consumers across all of China.

He added that Alibaba was the type of entrepreneurial company that Lionsgate liked to do business with and the launch of the streaming service underscores the company commitment to leadership and innovation in delivering top content across the globe.

Alibaba subscribers will be able to have exclusive footage behind the scenes, features and other content that is premium and not available in any other location but China. In addition, there will be VIP membership access and benefits like special merchandise and screening invitations.
